Using Talk Trees responsibly
Talk Trees was developed alongside educators to create a tool that fits real learning contexts. Throughout this process, we centered a few core ideas: (1) create rich, reflective, asset-based conversations; (2) center student and educator agency; (3) preserve privacy. These principles continue to guide Talk Trees’ growth and development.
As you get started, here are a few things to consider for creating a positive experience for your students and school community.
Build Understanding Together
Talk Trees work best when everyone understands what the tool is and why it is being used. You may want to share your plans with administrators, students, and families, creating opportunities for questions, conversation, and shared understanding. We aim for complete transparency with how we handle data.
Put Students at the Center
Talk Trees are ultimately about students’ voices. Inviting students into the process, listening to their perspectives, and giving them opportunities to reflect on their own discourse can help make Talk Trees a meaningful part of classroom life.
Our Privacy-First Promise:
We protect your classroom from the start. We do not store any data, or any student's personal identifying information. We never use data to train AI models (actually we can’t because we don’t store any data) or track students across applications (which we also can’t do since we don’t keep any student identification information).
