Growing from Talk Trees to Conversations
Talk Trees is designed to support conversation, not script it. There is no single “right” way to talk about a Talk Tree. Instead, we have different scaffolds that offer flexible options for making the most of your trees. As the educator, you know what’s best for your students.
Use them to:
Introduce Talk Trees to your students by going over Talk Tree basics
Celebrate student talk by noticing and discussing moments when students shared ideas, explained their thinking, or built on one another’s ideas
Compare across lessons by looking at how classroom talk changes over time and identifying patterns, growth, or new goals
Choose the prompts and activities that fit your students, your goals, and the conversation you want to have. Above all, be playful, experiment, and have fun!
